Independent Structural Verification of a Modular Tower Structure
Blackfish used advanced simulation and structural assessment to verify the performance of a complex modular structure, helping the client move forward with manufacturing confidence.

Blackfish delivered a comprehensive finite element assessment to verify structural performance under operational, dead and wind loading.
The client required assurance that a new modular steel and aluminium tower structure could safely withstand expected operating conditions before committing to manufacture.
Blackfish developed a detailed finite element model of the structure, assessed multiple loading scenarios, identified critical stress locations and validated structural behaviour under worst-case loading conditions.
The assessment highlighted areas for design refinement and provided the confidence needed to move forward with manufacturing and certification activities.
Challenge
A private client needed independent verification that a large modular steel and aluminium structure could safely withstand operational, dead and wind loading before manufacture commenced. Multiple loading scenarios and a complex geometry made conventional assessment impractical, requiring a robust engineering approach to understand structural behaviour and identify any design risks.
Approach
Blackfish developed a detailed finite element model using a combination of surface and beam elements to efficiently represent the structure. Dead, operational and wind loads were applied across multiple load cases, with reaction forces reviewed to validate assumptions. Mesh refinement studies were undertaken to ensure reliable results and identify critical structural areas.
Outcome
The assessment provided a clear understanding of structural performance and highlighted opportunities for targeted design improvements. By independently verifying the design and reducing technical uncertainty, Blackfish helped the client progress towards manufacture with greater confidence and a stronger evidence base for future certification activities.
