Verification and Validation Strategy for Novel Energy Storage Technology

Blackfish helped Solead build a structured Verification and Validation strategy for its novel, patented energy storage technology. The workshop process gave the team a clear roadmap to share with investors and regulators.

Blackfish helped Solead establish a clear, credible technology development roadmap through a structured Verification and Validation workshop process.

Solead had developed a novel and recently patented battery and electrical energy storage technology and required a structured approach to managing technical risks, defining system requirements and planning the validation activities necessary for commercialisation. Like many innovative technology developers, key knowledge existed within the engineering team but was not yet fully documented in a way that could support investors, regulators and wider stakeholders.

Blackfish facilitated a comprehensive Verification and Validation workshop, guiding the client through a structured process to identify critical requirements, assess technical and commercial risks and determine the most appropriate validation methods. Requirements and risks were reviewed against recognised validation approaches including analysis, inspection, testing, design review and similarity assessment. Blackfish then challenged assumptions, identified opportunities to combine activities and developed an efficient strategy for reducing development cost and timescale without compromising confidence in the technology. The outputs were brought together into a clear visual roadmap showing the progression from development testing through to commercial deployment.

The workshop provided Solead with a clearly defined development strategy, enabling the team to communicate its plans more effectively to investors, regulators, customers and internal stakeholders. By applying an independent and structured approach, Blackfish helped the client focus on the highest-value development activities whilst reducing unnecessary effort and cost.

Challenge

Solead had developed a novel, patented energy storage technology and needed a structured approach to managing technical risk and planning validation for commercialisation. Key knowledge sat within the engineering team but wasn't yet documented in a way that could support investors and regulators.

Approach

Blackfish facilitated a structured Verification and Validation workshop, guiding Solead through identifying critical requirements, assessing risks and selecting the most appropriate validation methods. The team challenged assumptions and combined activities to reduce development cost and timescale, bringing the outputs together into a clear roadmap from testing through to commercial deployment.

Outcome

The workshop gave Solead a clearly defined development strategy, helping the team communicate its plans more effectively to investors, regulators and other stakeholders. It also helped Solead focus on the highest-value development activities while reducing unnecessary effort and cost.
