C-Dart Quick Connection Mooring System - technology development
Blackfish designed a self-aligning mooring connection that removes the need for divers or ROVs during offshore work. C-Dart is now a commercially manufactured solution for wave, tidal and floating wind applications.

C-Dart is a passive quick-connection mooring system developed by Blackfish Engineering for offshore renewable energy, progressing from an early concept through testing, certification and commercial manufacture.
Traditional offshore connections can require divers, ROVs or close-quarters vessel operations to handle heavy mooring equipment, creating safety risks and limiting work to suitable weather conditions.
Blackfish created a self-aligning mechanical and electrical connection using gravity, buoyancy and rope tension. The team completed structural analysis, testing and qualification before working with AJT Engineering to prepare the system for manufacture.
C-Dart is now a scalable, commercially manufactured solution for wave, tidal, floating wind, aquaculture and wider marine applications, reducing manual intervention during offshore connection operations.
